Shooting video footage for road tests certainly throws up plenty of challenges; the first thing is getting the weather right, the right kit and location. We certainly struck lucky the weekend we had to film the Zero electric motorcycle. Apart from slightly milky looking white skies, the rain keeps off whilst we shot video footage in and around Gloucestershire and Worcestershire.
This was our first outing using the new Canon C300 camera, and I must admit we were very impressed. We only had a few minutes to get to grips with the camera before we began our short shooting schedule. The camera’s small size makes it ideal for discrete filming in any location, as it’s not much bigger than a DSLR camera. However, it has all the functions of a professional video camera, and best of all a menu system that’s easy to get to grips with – even without any previous experience of Canon’s menu system. So, I’d recommend using the Canon for any client’s who are looking to commission a road test promo video or commercial.
We combined footage shot in TurnRound’s film/video studio in Gloucestershire, with location video shot around Malvern’s and North Gloucestershire. Tranquil roads and picturesque backdrops of the Malvern Hills gives the footage a gentle English feel, worlds away from the bike’s origins in California! Happily, the crew even found time for lunch at the Morgan Pub!
We were impressed with the Canon C300 camera, find out what we thought of the Zero electric bike too!
